The Cardiac ICU is not the place a new postpartum mother wants to be. But we occasionally have patients in the ICU due to post-partum complications. We had one patient who had yet to have a chance to hold her baby. Adrianna recognized her desperation to hold and bond with her baby and took it upon herself to get an order from the doctors to allow the patient to travel off the unit (nurse accompanied). She then coordinated with the NICU making sure it was a good time for the baby and those nurses to make sure for a successful trip. The joy that filled the patient was palpable upon their return. Adrianna went above and beyond for this patient and her new baby as this bonding experience was essential. Watching this occur made me proud not only to work with Adrianna but to work for such an organization as Shands UF Health.
