Adrianne walked into the department and immediately received a patient that arrived by ambulance with chest pain. Adrianne is always focused and ready to work the minute she arrives. As she was charting, she looked up and saw a change in the patient's condition and noted EKG changes in the monitor. She called for help and immediately started CPR as she witnessed the patient crash into cardiac arrest. When I arrived, CPR was in progress and the physician arrived. To be brief, the patient was defibrillated and was taken to the Cath Lab for intervention. Due to her diligence, competence and willingness to act, the patient's outcome was good due to how quickly CPR and intervention were provided.
What makes Adrianne special was what followed that incident. As she was walking back to the busy ER after delivering her patient to the care of the Cath Lab team, EMS called in a code STEMI to the ED and I was looking to place the acute patient in one of her open beds. I told her that I would take this new patient because I was sure that she needed to chart and decompress after all the action. She said, "No, I am good. Give it to me - I am in the zone. I really want this one". So after saving one life, she asked for a chance to do it again. In the years I have worked with Adrianne "Fish" Vanamersfort, she consistently rises to the occasion regardless of the obstacle and delivers exemplary care with dedication, and enthusiasm.
