Adrienne provided nursing care, family support, and extremely empathetic, profoundly difficult care to a very young deteriorating patient who eventually died in the unit. Caring for any ICU patient is stressful, but Adrienne remained calm while stressed and under powerfully challenging situations. We all cried together but held our composure to be strong for the patient and family, but Adrienne as our shift nursing leader facilitated our group support of each other with opportunities to ventilate and express our grief while continuing to provide optimal care to all our patients.
