I wanted to recognize Aerin for going above and beyond to help a patient and her family. Tonight, in the ED, we had a patient come it with multiple issues surrounding the education and skills she needed to take care of her new ostomy. The patient and her family member were frustrated and felt like they didn't get the teaching they needed.
In addition to the frustration, the patient had developed some significant skin issues surrounding her stoma. We called Aerin for advice on how best to treat the skin and redress the stoma and Aerin volunteered to come down and do it. Once we had gathered the supplies she requested, Aerin came down to the ED from the floor and spent a significant amount of time with the patient and her family member caring for the patient's ostomy and getting it redressed, all while explaining what she was doing and teaching them how to do it at home.
Aerin was amazing with them and they were both so appreciative of the care and time she took. I am so appreciative of her willingness to help us out and in the way she did it. Thank you, Aerin!
