Afton Werner 2, RN

One of our transfusion patients needed to be transfused twice weekly due to his continued anemia related to cancer. Afton developed a close connection with him over the course of his treatment and would often hold his hand and give him extra time and effort to make him comfortable. On one particular occasion, the patient was very depressed and exhausted. Afton brought him a pillow, multiple warm blankets, got him broth and bread, and sat with him. She has a warm presence, and the extra effort to help a dying man exemplifies what it means to be a nurse. In his moment of need, Afton made him feel loved and cared for, and since this was one of the last times he was treated here, I think she gave him relief from his sadness and fear.
