Agnes is the perfect example of an employee who goes above and beyond her duties.
I have included below some of the work qualities that she shows on a daily basis:
• Comes in early to set up clinic and often stays after hours to accommodate a patient's needs.
• Welcomes each patient with familiarity as they enter the clinic.
• Two nurses work this clinic, but for the last seven weeks, her partner has been on medical leave. She has done a remarkable job with little or no assistance.
Some of her daily responsibilities include:
• Patient scheduling, ordering supplies and medications, as well as patient "sticks" (IVs).
• Making patients at ease by providing them with pillows, blankets, drinks, and snacks.
• Picking up medications and blood supplies from the lab.
• Disinfecting where patients have been prior to new patient arrivals.
• Takes vitals constantly and enters information into the computer.
• Diligently double checks the doctor's orders.
That would be a lot of work for one nurse with one patient, but often there are as many as six patients at a time all requiring attention. That's why she "never sits down or eats lunch". She seems to get by just running on a cup of coffee and a package of crackers. Most of all, she doesn't get upset when a "walk-in" shows up unexpectedly. Instead, she does her best to accommodate their needs.
Her talent is being able to "stick" (IV) people on the very first time. As she says, "God has blessed me with this ability".
A definite example of her performing above and beyond what's required would be her coming in over the weekend when needed for her patients.
CAMC Teays Valley has a "hidden gem" with her and she is very deserving of this recognition. Simply put, she makes a difficult time bearable. I know because I have been a patient in her clinic twice a week for the last six months.
