We had a patient on the rehab unit who was in a very serious accident. He is from an African country on a work visa and really didn't have family here; he was non-English speaking. Once transferred here from Iowa City, his mother was able to get a temporary visa to come. She also did not speak English. She was here alone, with no means of transportation and no money. How scary this must have been!
Agness, being most familiar with the culture, made traditional cultural foods, stopped to get special breads and was especially helpful to connect the patient's mom with her daughter in the UK by using a special app Agness has on her phone. Agness tried to keep this all quiet so as not to expect recognition, she just wanted to help and serve someone in need.
