Faty transferred to the CCU from Klau 4 in October 2019. Knowing that transferring to the critical care setting would be challenging, Faty requested to shadow a nurse for one shift on her own time. That was impressive. She wanted to be certain that she was making the right decision. The transition was seamless despite the death of her grandmother who was very dear and close to her.
Faty works on the night shift. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Faty was often floated to the "dreaded" pop-up ICU on R4. She was even floated there on a day shift she had switched due to scheduling purposes as a request by her nurse manager. Not even for a fleeting moment did Faty complain or display a negative attitude during these extremely challenging times. Faty takes kindness, caring, compassion, and empathy to the highest level you can imagine. Just read the enclosed letter:
Good afternoon,
I am with the CTT team and completed a post-discharge call with a patient who was on F6B and F6C. Patient rated her hospital stay as 5/5. She was very pleased with the care that she received from the staff. She offered many compliments to Ahou Faty Mbaye and another night nurse whose name she did not recall. She reported that one evening she was feeling very uncomfortable and in need of a good bath. She reported that those two nurses made some time during their shift to sponge her down and wash her hair, she was very appreciative of the gesture that was made towards her.
In addition, when Faty was asked who the nurse was, she not only gave her name but took the time to compliment her colleague by saying, "She is a great nurse."
I think Faty displayed extraordinarily!! She washed this patient's hair to make her "feel better". She was wearing a Tyvek suit, isolation gown, N95 mask, surgical mask, eyewear, and shield but took the time to make the patient feel better beyond medications and monitoring vital signs.
