Aidah volunteered with CFC for about 2 months in the role of a vaccinator, RN observer, and registration at the CFC sites.
Community Fighting COVID (CFC) was created in the spring of 2020 as a volunteer effort to bring awareness and education to underserved communities in the Rochester, NY area regarding the COVID pandemic. Aidah joined CFC in the summer of 2021 when CFC began the administration of vaccines. Aidah was enthusiastic and really took on a leadership role being a role model and preceptor to new volunteers coming to help in the weeks following. Aidah volunteered with CFC for about 2 months in the role of a vaccinator, RN observer, and registration at the CFC sites. Aidah also canvased the neighborhood as an ambassador to get folks to receive their vaccination. Aidah used her own personal finances at times to purchase balloons to bring more visibility to the area of the CFC sites. This project specifically addressed the health and health care social determinant-access to care. The CFC framework of going to the community and boots on the groundwork is what Aidah embraced.
