I am thankful for Aimee and her taking the time to help my family and me.
While I did not have the chance to meet Aimee, I wish I could have because my family and I are so grateful for her kindness. I called the UMC PICU in search of a medical device that was out of stock at several hospitals located elsewhere in Texas. My sick nephew was in need of the said device. I was able to speak with Aimee on the phone and inquired if UMC had the device in stock and the possibility of working out an arrangement to get the medical device sent to a Dallas hospital for my sick nephew.

Aimee took it upon herself to make some calls around the hospital. She was able to locate the device in the hospital and called me back with the great news. She also informed me about the process for getting the device sent. Through a series of events, we ended up not needing to send the device from UMC. Despite that, I am thankful for Aimee and her taking the time to help my family and me.

As a charge nurse in a busy ICU, she could have easily and understandably dismissed my request. She went above and beyond to help a stranger on the phone and a patient that was not her own. If that isn't compassion and empathy, then I don't know what is. I called several other hospitals during this search and did not interact with anyone as near as helpful as Aimee, nor as kind. Thank you, Aimee. It may have just seemed like a small phone call to you, however, to my family you gave us hope when we were hitting dead ends everywhere.
