My husband and I feel very blessed to have experienced nursing care at Aimee’s level. Her value as a skilled ICU nurse is immeasurable.
My husband was in ICU at Memorial Hospital Shiloh, Illinois for 10 days. He developed sepsis from a urinary blockage due to a large kidney stone. He was in critical condition on a ventilator for 3 days. The ICU nurse who cared for him during his most critical days was Aimee Stephens. Aimee is the most caring and competent nurse I have ever witnessed. At one point I asked her if she enjoys critical care nursing. She said she had been doing it for 10 years and only wants to do that type of nursing. She said she is challenged by the problem solving aspect and communicating with physicians re: adjustment of meds, IVs and possible needed testing. When he was taken off the ventilator, my husband experienced ICU delirium which completely terrified me. She took the time to thoroughly explain it to me and to provide me with literature on that and other ICU terminology. When she had a concern that his delirium lasted several days, she got orders for a head scan which was normal. At every step during his recovery in ICU, she not only provided him top notch care, but also took time to keep me hopeful and reassured that the events happening in the ICU were not abnormal. When my husband was transferred out of the ICU to a regular hospital room, she continued her loving care by coming to check on him during her break. My husband and I feel very blessed to have experienced nursing care at Aimee’s level. Her value as a skilled ICU nurse is immeasurable. But also remarkable is the gift God has given her to show love and compassion to patients and families who are scared and hurting.
