Aimee Royer, RN
Aimee came in at 7 pm, happy and ready to work. My mom is 84, losing her sight, and did not want to be here. And add to that, we all knew she was in for a rough night because she was preparing for a procedure she was having in the morning.
About 30 minutes into her shift, we had a disaster. Aimee came in without flinching and went to get help to clean up. Her bright personality and smile never broke; she treated my mom so tenderly and kindly. I felt so bad and kept apologizing, but Aimee never made me feel bad. Instead, she reassured me that it was ok and said several times, “No, don’t worry about it; we expected this.”
But what really touched my heart is that she treated my mother with the utmost respect. She didn’t complain or groan as she tended to the less desirable tasks that come with an older patient. She made my mom smile at a very difficult time, affectionately calling her “mom” to make her more at ease.
Every time Aimee came in the room, she was happy even though she didn’t know what she was walking into. She cracked jokes and made us laugh. After 12 hours, she came in to introduce the next nurse; she was still smiling. I thanked her, and she said, “For what?” laughing.
She does not realize the impact she makes on people when just being herself. She shows the kind of personal interest that cannot be taught; it is a personality trait that not many have.
All the nurses and techs were amazing this week. My mom was in the hospital, but the one I will not forget is Aimee. She not only loves her job, but she also loves people. That is very clear, and it made me feel at ease.
I think she is worth her weight not in gold, but in diamonds. She is a gem, and I truly appreciate her kindness.
