I met Aimee as a spinal fusion patient at Swedish. I was a patient there for multiple surgeries. I was under Aimee's care for approximately the second half of my stay. I had a bad reaction to the anesthesia which resulted in me being very out of sorts for most of my stay – extremely disoriented and in excruciating pain best describes me at that time.
The care I received from Aimee was definitely different from the other nurses in that she helped to humanize the experience for me by talking through the pain issues I was dealing with, supporting me through the severe gastro issues I was dealing with, and treating me with real respect during the most intimate aspects of nurses’ care. She was very patient with my confusion, clearly explained everything that she was doing, gently reminded me that it was time to order food, to take care of personal hygiene, and explained medications, procedures, and more.
Whenever Aimee signed on for her shift, I was able to relax and just let her guide me. Recovering from spinal fusion is close to the worst thing I've ever done, but Aimee really made the process bearable, including the late night/early morning hours that were the toughest. Aimee deserves to be recognized for going above and beyond for her special patient care. This patient is so grateful that I was in her care.
