Airen Leyba, BSN, RN, CMSRN

Airen's expert, compassionate care is extraordinary. Had I been this hospital's CEO, my care couldn't have been any better. During my stay there was one of those moments everyone hopes they never experience. The beeps were sounding, and some wonderful nurses/staff came RUSHING into my room. It was one of those moments in time when you hoped you had spent enough time with your kids because it was a ”Who knows if there is any time left” kind of moment. Amidst the activity of everyone present, fully engaged in executing their responsibilities, Airen compassionately grasped me on my forearm, positioned her head near mine as she looked me in the eye, and assured me that I was going to be okay.         

I don't consider myself to be gullible, but I testify here to you that at that moment, Airen's words, her gentle, supportive, caring touch, and confidence had me believing her every word - hook, line, and sinker. 

Thankfully, as with everything else, Airen was right, and I am grateful and proud to be alive and well - to nominate her for this DAISY Award - which she personifies.
