Aiza Sarmiento, BSN, RN
When I arrived at the hospital, I was brought to the Emergency Department by ambulance before being admitted and transferred to the ICU. I was suffering from severe cellulitis in my legs, experiencing excruciating pain, and feeling terrified.
Eventually, I was moved to an isolation room. The best way to describe how I felt at that time was overwhelmed and alone. Every bandage change left me screaming in pain and feeling embarrassed. Then Aiza became my nurse.
From the very first night, something was different. In her calm and reassuring voice, she told me, “You’re going to be okay, Miss Kim.” She changed my bandages with such gentleness, patience, and compassion that, for the first time since I had arrived, I felt a sense of peace. Her caring approach helped me relax and gave my wounds the chance to begin healing.
Whenever I saw Aiza working at night, I knew I was going to be okay. She made me feel safe, cared for, and no longer alone. I honestly do not know where I would be without her, and I am deeply grateful for everything she did for me.
Anyone can remove and replace bandages, but taking the time to do it with kindness, dignity, and genuine compassion means everything. Aiza's exceptional care made one of the most difficult experiences of my life more bearable, and I will never forget her.
