Every time he entered the room, he was smiling.
My husband was admitted on Tuesday, April 15th. He had been referred to NYP/Weill Cornell by his PCP because he was experiencing a facial droop, change in speech, and trouble finding words. After numerous tests and finally an MRI, it was determined that he had a stroke. We were both devastated upon learning this since he is a HEALTHY and active 71-year-old man. He was both angry and upset that this happened to him. The neurology department said that they needed to admit him to monitor him closely and administer the necessary medications. My husband had never been in a hospital overnight before, and he was very anxious. AJ was exceedingly kind, patient, and responsive to my husband and me. Every time he entered the room, he was smiling. My husband's IV line kept beeping after he moved, and AJ was so pleasant despite the numerous times he had to ring for him. He also tried his best to expedite the visit from the SLP because my husband hadn’t eaten in 36 hours and was really hungry. He kept us up-to-date on who would be coming to see my husband, the tests that needed to be taken, and what the turnaround time would be. When AJ told us that my husband was going to be discharged, AJ very carefully explained the discharge instructions, medications, follow-up appointments, etc. In summary, AJ and his compassion, professionalism, and special care helped make this horrible event a little easier to bear. We cannot express how grateful we are.
