Akilah Robinson, MSNEd, RN, PCCN

My daddy was cared for by Akilah for four days- one day on, a day off, then three straight days. He was taken care of by her with such love and respect. He decided he didn’t remember “Akilah” so he named her “Donna”. She went with it, and we all started calling her Donna. She had 4 days off. He was mad about her leaving him. He loved her that much. When she returned, he had been moved to Hospice and was no longer opening his eyes. After her shift, Akilah came walking into his room. When she saw him, she walked over to his bed. With tears streaming down her face, she put her hand on his head, leaned down to his ear, and said, “It’s me, your nurse Donna. It was my pleasure to be your nurse. Thank you for honoring me. You rest now.” She turned and hugged all of us. What an amazing, wonderful nurse we were fortunate to have. Thank you, Akilah, lovingly known by our family as Donna.
