My 14-year-old special needs daughter was admitted to HSC for rehabilitation after having orthopedic surgery at Children's Hospital. When we arrived, Akpa Ndubuisi was one of the first nurses we saw. My daughter was agitated, frustrated, and untamed because of the new environment; however, Mr. Ndubuisi remained patient, calm, and looked for ways to calm her down. His tour of duty was almost over but he did not rush us but continued to assure us that she would adjust and get better each day. The next day when he arrived, he was told my daughter did not sleep the entire night, because of the constant interruptions for medications and vitals, and we both were frustrated and exhausted. I told him that it was best I went home and contemplated contacting a private nursing company to oversee my daughter's care. He assured me that she would improve each day. He asked the staff to give me some time to rest and blocked anyone from coming into the room. He also asked the doctor if the staff could refrain from giving medication unless needed and taking vitals during the night. I was so appreciative of his level of concern and he was right, my daughter improved and became totally comfortable with the facility and the staff.
