I have been a nurse for over 10 years but I have never been on the other side of the bed. I was hospitalized for 7 days and went through a myriad of different tests. The staff at UCSF couldn't have been better to me but one nurse really stands out. That is nurse Al on 15 Long. He took the time to explain things to me, advocate for me, and he just really cared. This experience has been a whirlwind but I knew when Al was my nurse that it was going to be ok. He reminded me of what it is to be a nurse; honestly, he reinvigorated my own passion for nursing. Al has a very special approach to his work; he was so in tune with me and my needs. Having Al as my nurse has been a blessing. He is a true asset to UCSF and to the field of nursing.
