His quiet leadership is so appreciated. The staff in the department see Al as someone they trust, who is knowledgeable, and who will do the right thing. His integrity is a quality that is inspiring to those around him.
It is unanimous… The Mercy Quality Department would like to nominate Al Ramos for the DAISY Award. Every member of our department believes Al is worthy of this award.
Al put his time in as a bedside nurse for many years. Al is noted for his kind, calm demeanor. Al is excellent with patients, working with peers, providers, and leadership.
After many years at the bedside, Al held a supervisory position and excelled with that well. In August of 2022, Al joined the Quality Department. He jumped right in, and quickly became an integral part of the team.
Al works very well with the physicians on the Mercy Physician Excellence Committee. They rely on his guidance for the committee to assure our patient outcomes are the best. Al is an excellent EPIC navigator, and he assists us all in the department with finding things in EPIC.
Al also took on the role of campus Accreditory/ Regulatory leader. He again, jumped right in and did everything he could to learn the regulations and requirements so that he could assure our compliance was up to standard.
Al is always one of the first to jump in to help in any situation. His quiet leadership is so appreciated. The staff in the department see Al as someone they trust, who is knowledgeable, and who will do the right thing. His integrity is a quality that is inspiring to those around him.
Al can be seen in the department working late hours to make sure he hits all the deadlines for others… for the providers, for our department, and for the hospital.
Al is leaving Mercy to move his family to Hawaii to promote his daughter’s education and future. Another example of his caring/kind personality.
Al gives so much to others. We want to show Al how much he is appreciated by this hospital for all his years of service.
I’ve worked with Al for many years and have watched him grow from a new grad to a seasoned, highly respected RN by his peers, campus leadership, and providers. Al has always demonstrated compassion and excellence with patients and their families, plus his peers. He has been instrumental in mentoring many new grads over the years. During his time as supervisor on the MedSurg unit, he challenged and encouraged staff to grow in their nursing skills and profession. Al always gave his 110% and had the same expectation from those around him.
When a position in Quality Management Services opened and he applied, I knew Al would be a great asset. Al embodies CSH’s Core Values:
Reverence: He works well with everyone. He’s respectful of others and always ready to assist when a need arises.
Integrity: Al keeps a positive outlook and sees the good in every situation. He follows through with his commitments and takes ownership of his job role. He is deliberate and thorough with chart review and event investigation. He is a positive representative of CHI Health Mercy CB.
Compassion: Al sees the patient as a person and respects each individual. He listens to understand the situation and advocates for others in need. If a need is identified, he volunteers to assist in whatever way is needed.
Excellence: Al not only holds himself accountable, but he has the same expectations for those around him. When problems are identified, he works with others to correct them. As Al was learning a new role, he was always researching and learning all he could, to be the best he could be. In the short time he has been a member of the Quality team, he has been a valuable co-worker. Al doesn’t seek the spotlight, but his work greatly impacts the quality of patient care.
Inclusion: Al is respectful to everyone and treats everyone with kindness, compassion, and dignity.
Al is very deserving of the DAISY Award.

Al Ramos leads quietly by example. His extensive clinical knowledge and experience have been invaluable to me as a new member of the quality team. He navigates Epic with ease and is able to quickly and efficiently identify information our department needs to improve patient outcomes.
Al is never too busy to help whenever needed. Even though he might have multiple tasks he is juggling, he doesn’t hesitate to assist colleagues when asked, and he does so with grace and humor. This was especially evident during the October 2022 downtime, when he provided much-needed assistance to our frontline nursing staff for several days. I know they were very grateful to have his nursing expertise and calming presence back on the units.
Al Ramos is a tremendous asset to Mercy Council Bluffs and will be greatly missed. He is very deserving of this award.

Al is very methodical in his search for the right answer. He is a great fit for Quality because is not afraid to look for guidance in the many resources made available to us. He keeps the patients' best interest at the center of any issue. He has so much bedside experience, and puts that experience to work in Quality. I have learned from Al, and he willingly shares his knowledge and experience so others can benefit. Al has helped to make Mercy a greater place to be treated, and a greater place to work.

Al exhibits core values and essential behaviors with every interaction he has at the workplace. He has integrated and transitioned his role from Bedside nurse to Quality seamlessly. He is positive, dedicated to learning a new role, and working diligently toward becoming an expert on regulatory/accreditory. He has exhibited good judgement and has been able to effectively communicate any issues that need to be addressed in a timely manner. Al would always consult fellow team members with any concerns and would seek to learn and understand the background of the standards.
Al was eager to learn from and jump right in to be a collaborative Quality team member. We will miss him!!
