During her time as a nurse supervisor, Ala has tirelessly worked to advocate for many of our sickest and most vulnerable patients, helping to facilitate transfers to outside hospitals for higher levels of care.
Today, I am nominating Ms. Ala Dela Pena for her tireless work in helping support our physicians, nurses, and administrators in the care of patients. Ala was a UR RN on our InterQual team when I first started as an Assistant Medical Director in the UR department. Upon the departure of one of our nurse supervisors, she took over as interim and then a full-time nursing supervisor in the UR Department in charge of UR for the ICUs, Pediatrics, and Hawkins in 2022.
During her time as a nurse supervisor, she has tirelessly worked to advocate for many of our sickest and most vulnerable patients, helping to facilitate transfers to outside hospitals for higher levels of care, providing support to physicians in order to ensure patient needs were met at discharge and care for young patients and those with mental health concerns. Her team has worked with Dr. T and Dr. C to transform the delivery of care at Hawkins and in our peds wards and ICU. She serves the medical center as a member of the ICU Committee and is always available to nurses, physicians, advanced practice clinicians, and her team in order to help move patient care forward. Her leadership over the various areas has been instrumental in ensuring safe and effective movement of patients through the continuum of care and helped to support life changing and lifesaving interventions for patients. Her dedication to patients, families and their experience at our facility is unmatched. It is an honor to serve as her physician supervisor and a privilege to nominate her for this award.
