Alan supported him and calmed him down so that I would have time to come to the hospital and be there for him when he came out of the lab.
When my husband spoke to me the next morning and I was getting ready to come to visit him, he told me that Alan was his RN for the day. Alan follows the 4 C’s of NorthBay Healthcare.

Caring: As soon as I arrived on the unit that morning, I was thrilled to see Alan as my husband’s RN. I knew immediately that he was in such good hands and my husband couldn’t say enough about him about how caring and kind he was to him. R felt so safe with Alan and really appreciated how compassionate he was. He was always checking on him several times a day to make sure that he was ok and if he needed anything. My husband didn’t have a chance to call on the call bell, because Alan was always there, not to just do his tasks but just to visit with him so he would relax. Alan was the nurse when my husband found out he needed a Cardiac Cath that day and R was so scared. Alan supported him and calmed him down so that I would have time to come to the hospital and be there for him when he came out of the lab.

Competence: I was impressed with the competence that Alan displays in his job, and was especially impressed with his care and knowledge on the day that he took care of R.

Collaboration: Again, if Alan couldn’t immediately come to my husband’s bedside, he made sure somebody did, He then came in when he could, but he again counted on his team for teamwork, and it was evident that this is a core value that is practiced on that floor with these nurses and their CNA’s. He collaborated well during his entire shift. Actually, if there was a 5th C, I would suggest camaraderie be it because he definitely practiced with camaraderie.

Communication: Alan always kept me, and R, updated on anything he was doing for him. He communicated with me several times that day and again, R felt so safe in his hands because he knew what to expect with every task that Alan did for him that day. I love the kind of nursing model that includes communication as Alan was definitely a great communicator.
