July 2026 Honoree
Alana Freking, RN
Alana Freking was a Godsend to my husband and me. First and foremost, she was a wonderful team player, stepping in to cover for a nurse who had to go home sick. She immediately struck us with her calm and down-to-earth personality. Every time she entered our room, she seemed confident and was extremely professional (I would have never guessed that she was a relatively new nurse!) She handled our circumstances with grace even though she was thrown into a very unstable and scary situation.
Alana was extremely attentive, constantly monitoring my husband's heart rate and oxygen saturation and checking in often to see how things were going. Whenever my husband pushed his call light, it seemed like she was there in mere seconds! Alana was a thorough and detailed messenger between my husband and me and Dr. C.
She was receptive to my husband's desire to shower at 4 a.m. and took it upon herself to gather everything and help him prepare to get in and out of the shower. When the shower did not fully help my husband relax, she suggested some Ativan, which significantly helped my husband. He was able to relax, sleep, and allowed me to relax, too.
I felt an unexplainable trust in Alana and confided in her the thoughts and feelings that I'd been suppressing for the previous 24 hours in the midst of my husband's emergency. She was an extremely engaged listener and realized that I found comfort in any and all education. She empowered me with education regarding what a truly critical tripod position looks like, how to check heart rate and oxygenation levels on the tele, and what to expect in an ever-changing situation.
She would obviously ask my husband if he needed anything but would also check on my needs, which meant the absolute world. I feel that Alana is following God's calling for her, as she is excelling as a nurse!
LRH is so lucky to have her as an employee, and my husband and I are eternally grateful that she was a critical part of our care team. Much love and many blessings to her!
