Alanna is totally awesome. She has a great attitude, is very helpful, and compassionate.
I always knew Alanna was an outstanding nurse from the time I first spoke with her; she is kind, compassionate, hardworking, and filled with grace, everything you hope for your bedside nurse to be when taking care of you or your family member in a vulnerable state. My initial impressions of Alanna were affirmed when she sent me a DAISY Award nomination that she had received from a patient at her current assignment at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. These words echo what I see in Alanna every time we interact, even if it’s just a short text conversation, she is always filled with positivity and joy. I’m excited to be able to share her patient’s words with you:
“Alanna is totally awesome. She has a great attitude, is very helpful, and compassionate. With care and understanding, she knows what a person in need wants and when they need help. She is very unassuming in her work and I’m very appreciative for her hard work and dedication to patients!”
Unassuming is the perfect word to describe Alanna. She is very humble about her work; she views her kindness as simply doing her job without realizing she’s going above and beyond to help better serve her community. Alanna started traveling in January amid the 2nd wave of Covid-19. Being local to OH, she knew there was a need for crisis nurses in certain hot spot areas. She was able to secure a position in Cincinnati, OH where Covid had taken a toll on its population not only once, but for a second time as it grew colder in the winter months. She wasn’t afraid of the reality of Covid, but instead attacked it head on and made the decision to work in an area that was most in need. Alanna works in the Intensive Care Unit where only the most severe cases are seen. She has undoubtedly made an impact on the hospital and its patients as Alanna has been asked multiple times by management to extend at Christ Hospital for as long as she can.
In addition, they are consistently having her precept new nurses. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that even as a traveler who has only been there for a few months, management is selecting her over more tenured nurses to train new hires. I am confident that the Hospital selects Alanna as the preceptor not only due to her excellent clinical skills, but also due to her kind-heartedness and the positive example she sets for other nurses. She is a true role model for not only new nurses, but those who are tenured as well. I am so appreciative to be able to represent a nurse like Alanna. It warms my heart to hear stories from her patients, and I’m honored to be able to work with someone who exemplifies the true values of the DAISY Award. I want her to know that her impact on the nursing community does not go unnoticed, and that she is being recognized for going above and beyond in her patient care. This is only one story, but I can say with confidence that she has touched many lives throughout her nursing career. Nursing is a vocation for Alanna, not just a job, she was meant to do this in her life.
