The patient's husband was admitted here, and she called for a nurse update after getting home from a doctor's appointment. The nurse couldn't take the call at that time, so a message was left for the RN. While waiting for the callback, my soon-to-be patient went to lie down. She told me she just wasn't feeling right and then the phone rang. It was the nurse calling with the update. My patient answered the phone and said she couldn't speak clearly, and she didn't know why. The nurse didn't feel right about the situation and called 911. The nurse stayed on the phone and talked with the wife while EMS was en route. The patient ended up being admitted to our facility all because of this wonderful nurse's instinct! I believe this is a great tribute to how much our nurses care not only for their own patients but also for their families and our community!
