Aleah volunteered to wash S's clothes. The unit washer and dryer weren't functioning so she had to make several trips to another unit to use theirs.
On our day of discharge, it was Aleah's turn to float. She wanted to volunteer to make 2 turns in a row to float in order to stay on the unit today to discharge us. Since that didn't end up working out, she added us to her full load of patients down stairs and handled all of the last minute discharge problems and did our discharge with all the care, kindness, attention to detail that she has shown all along.
S had many days where she had difficulty coping with pain and anxiety due to multiple traumas. Aleah was very empathetic and worked with S to develop a plan for meds that worked for her, and then she followed that plan and communicated it to other nurses.
Aleah stayed with S, comforting her for a long time.
