Dear Alejandro Morales,
I am a patient diagnosed with Leukemia and during this time I got COVID, which led me to spend 6 months in the hospital, 3 of which I was intubated and unconscious. When I woke up with all my muscles atrophied and my lung capacity reduced, I spent 3 more months bedridden. All ICU nurses took care of me, and they all treated me excellently. However, Alejandro's care stood out.
Alejandro was always cheerful and in good humor, willing to help and take care of me. Every day, he would ask how I was doing, and without me asking, he would already have things in mind like: "Hey, your gown is a bit dirty, let me change it," "I'll change your sheets," "it's time for your medication." If I asked him for something, he wouldn't forget it. I always felt very comfortable when I knew Alejandro would be my nurse because he was very organized, keeping everything clean and in its place.
Imagine being in bed every day for months; as a patient, it's very comforting to be in an organized and clean environment, especially during difficult times. I ended up with severe muscle atrophy and had a tracheostomy, so I couldn't speak. It was refreshing for me that, even without being able to speak or move, Alex could read my mind, taking care even of the room temperature. It was easy for me to communicate with him without being able to speak.
On one occasion, I had a hemorrhage in a catheter and needed constant pressure on the wound. He stayed with me throughout his shift, supporting me and never leaving me alone. Alex is a compassionate nurse who genuinely cares about his patients' well-being. He doesn't turn a blind eye; when he sees something that can be improved, he immediately solves it.
I can say the same about many, but Alejandro caught my attention because I saw in him a great calling for his profession, a great concern for his patients, very proactive, attentive, overall great. I also want to recognize that he was very attentive to my family when I was ill, since he took the time to inform them about my condition.
Congratulations to Alex for being such a great nurse. Please know that your patients notice, appreciate, and are grateful for all your effort. Thank you.
