Alesha’s recognition of, and reaction to, a distressed caller was why her co-worker nominated her for a DAISY Award. Here is how Alesha made such a huge impact:

Alesha answered a phone call from an individual this evening who started by asking if the ER would provide lethal injections for assisted suicide. Quickly realizing the patient was making a suicidal statement and was expressing a plan to hurt themselves, Alesha kept the individual on the phone while another nurse called 911.

Alesha talked with the patient and was able to get their name and address so Wichita PD could respond quickly. She remained on the phone, keeping the individual safe until PD made contact. I believe that if it were not for her actions and compassion for people, this individual may have taken his life. Nurses impact patients in so many ways.
