My Dad, a soon-to-be 95-year old, arrived in the Emergency Room last Thanksgiving evening. After countless tests, Dad was admitted to Woodwinds Hospital for care. As Dad said it best, there’s sure a hell of a lot wrong with me in such a short period of time. Fortunately, he was assigned to third floor with Tor as his nurse. At first sight, Tor could be mistaken for a professional football player, given his stature. But Tor’s tender loving care of Dad and his soft bedside manner blew me away. I find it difficult to articulate just how watching Tor in action brought such happiness and comfort to my family and me, too. Tor treated Dad with the utmost respect, giving Dad advance notice of all that he was doing to care for him. Tor treated Dad like one of his own family or, in following the golden rule, how he himself would want to be treated. Tor carefully flushed Dad’s catheter, administered Dad’s medications, and made Dad the coziest bed so Dad could rest. There are so many complex procedures Tor did with such expertise. Tor even stayed an additional four hours beyond his shift to be at Dad’s bedside when Dad was really out of it. And to my pleasant surprise, Tor was Dad’s nurse the next day!! Like I said earlier, Tor’s exceptional care of Dad is beyond words!!! I wish I could repay Tor for his expertise, kindness, and care! Tor embodied all that a daughter (me) could ever desire in a nurse entrusted to care for her (my) Dad!!
