Alex is a team player who steps up to help as he is a people person with leadership qualities. He has a gift of confidence with humility. One night he was challenged to take on more patients while also charging a different load from previous nights. He had 2 circle of life patients that night. Midway through shift as he was learning the room after checking everything in, he asked if there was anything else he could do. It was a sad silence. He waited, then asked if he could pray with them. Tears rolled and streamed as they accepted it, so he stayed and prayed. From what I remember hearing, the patient passed within that hour. The night was still busy, and Alex was in the next circle of life room with the second patient a few hours later. He was finishing up all needs in the room and on his way out, he asked again if there was anything else that he could do. The two were quiet, so he asked if he could pray with them. They were overjoyed with the offer and accepted. He stayed and prayed, the patient relaxed and family had gathered in. This patient also passed within an hour. Alex shared this as a caring moment the next morning with me. He was shocked at the spiritual needs and what he was able to offer. It meant so much to the families, allowing their loved ones to peacefully pass. At the end of life, spiritual needs can be greater than we can comprehend. Alex is a DAISY Nurse! Thank you, Alex!
