With immense gratitude and respect, I nominate Alex for the DAISY Award. Alex was the very first nurse who cared for our daughter, G, when we arrived at Sylvester CTU for the first time, a moment our family will never forget. We came in already overwhelmed and frightened because G urgently needed a platelet transfusion, but the process became more complicated due to her PICC line having been placed at another hospital institution. Because of necessary ownership protocols, cultures, testing, and safety procedures, there were delays before treatment could begin. As parents, watching our daughter with critically low platelets while waiting through uncertainty was incredibly stressful and emotionally exhausting.

From the very beginning, Alex became our anchor during that difficult moment. With extraordinary patience, professionalism, and calmness, he guided us through every step of the process. He took the time to explain the protocols clearly, answered every question with empathy and respect, and never once made us feel like our fears were insignificant. Instead of allowing the situation to become more overwhelming, he gave us reassurance, confidence, and hope. Thanks to his dedication and advocacy, he found solutions that helped not only in that immediate situation, but also created a better long-term plan for G’s care.

What makes Alex truly exceptional is that his compassion did not end with that first encounter. The next time he saw us, he remembered everything we had shared- our concerns, our daughter, our journey- and he genuinely showed interest in our well-being. That level of human connection is rare. He made us feel seen, remembered, and cared for not just as patients and parents, but as people. Alex embodies the very essence of what the DAISY Award represents. His clinical excellence is undeniable, but his humanity, emotional intelligence, and sincere compassion make him extraordinary. In some of the hardest moments of our lives, Alex brought comfort, steadiness, and kindness that left a permanent impact on our family. Some nurses do their jobs exceptionally well; others, like Alex, change the entire experience of care. We will always remember him with profound gratitude.

Thank you, Alex, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
