Nurse Alex Delong went above and beyond expectations while treating our son. She was always kind and treated him with respect. You could tell she knew what she was doing. Managing the machines, administering medications, and working around our son's needs to complete treatments. She was so patient, listening to him while working on his care. Very attentive and always smiling, every time before she left the room, she would ask him and us if we had any questions, and when we did, she was knowledgeable and didn't leave the room until she made sure we were okay and that any questions were answered. One day, when she asked if there was anything that our son needed, he asked for tape because he wanted his art displayed on the wall. She told him that she didn't have any tape on her, but she would find him some. A few hours later, he fell asleep, and I fell asleep as well. After waking up, I got all the emotions because right there, on the wall facing the bed, were his drawings on display. We both thought she forgot because she must have been busy with other patients, which we completely understood, but she didn't forget. When my son woke up and noticed his work, he got emotional. Things like that make a difference. It shows that not only does she excel in her line of work, but she also loves what she's doing; she truly cares for and respects her patients. And happy kids equal happy parents. It is not easy to watch someone sick, but these acts of kindness and knowing everyone does their best keep them hopeful.
