Any hospital stay with a major medical condition is already fraught with apprehension and discomfort. From the moment that Alex walked in, his pleasant bearing and genuine concern were visible. He was always caring and attentive, monitoring the critical oxygen levels and keeping us informed of changes. Humor is a drug that needs no prescription, as is kindness - he shares it with others. Alex went outside of his "paid' duties and provided excellent care with gentleness, kindness, and empathy. He showed true concern for me. The trivial and simple things to help me adjust (like juice or crackers) he did quickly and not "the next day." When I was transferred to another unit, he found me just to say hello. He was really checking to see how I was adjusting. Alex was thoughtful and sincere, which made my journey easier. He gave me confidence in the people who were caring for me and to be accepting of my medical condition.
