While almost all the hospital staff were amazing in their care, Alex was exceptional.
I would like to recognize Alex Kim, Neuro ICU, at Morse Ave Kaiser.
4 years ago, my 21-year-old son survived a life-threatening cerebral rupture. He was hospitalized at Kaiser Morse Ave for several weeks. This was during the COVID period when all hospital staff were overtaxed.
While almost all the hospital staff were amazing in their care, Alex was exceptional. My son was whisked away to Vallejo for rehabilitation, and I never had the opportunity to properly thank the ICU staff, doctors, and all the hospital staff for their support.
Just this year, my son was readmitted to Morse Ave Kaiser Neuro ICU, and the first night here, we felt relieved to learn that Alex would be his evening nurse for the first two nights of his stay.
Alex is still exceptional in his care for his patients in the following ways:
1. He communicates well with both our son and lets us know what he is doing and the schedule for the evening. He patiently answered so many of our questions while continuing to provide whatever care he was engaged in at the time.
2. He is so thoughtful about keeping our son comfortable and safe from excess noise, light, and movement. He educated us on ways to make it more comfortable for our son. Simple things like covering his eyes with a moist cloth to prevent bright light or dropping saline into his eyes to prevent them from drying out.
3. Alex could spot potential issues and was swift to take action. He would press the on-call doctor if he noticed anything remotely distressing. (We believe that this saved our son's life.)
4. In addition, Alex appears to be the most consistently meticulous nurse in his attention to detail. Every dressing, sheet, bedding, and equipment change was done swiftly and precisely. He maintained all scheduled tasks with a calm, quiet, unobtrusive manner.
While our son has been blessed with good care from all the staff, I feel doubly blessed to have Alex watch over him in the evening because I can actually sleep knowing that my son is being cared for by the most dedicated, skilled, and caring nurse.
