The relationship she has built with this patient and family provided a safe environment for this patient to approach Alex. Without the safety net that Alex provided, this could have had a very negative outcome.
There is no way I could be witness to this event and not nominate Alex for this award. She truly deserves to be a DAISY Honoree. Due to the personal nature of this patient’s story, I will be discreet in this nomination. There truly is no honor higher than being recognized by a family and patient. I can tell you from witnessing this event that the mom was distraught and deeply thankful for the actions that Alex took. I am sure that both Mom and the patient will reach out to Alex during their next appointment. As a DAISY recipient myself, I truly feel it is my duty to honor Alex and bring her extraordinary care for this complex family issue to light.

Alex brings so much joy to our unit daily, with her laughter and flexibility. Today, all of that was challenged when a complex patient opened up to Alex with serious concerns related to mental health. Alex handled all this with the utmost professionalism, quickly notifying management to access the services that this patient needed. Alex showed deep compassion toward the family. Over the past few months, Alex had built a rapport with this family and patient. Alex also set the standard of care for this patient’s specialized needs that we all follow. Truly, she was a gift today and should be commended at the highest level. The relationship she has built with this patient and family provided a safe environment for this patient to approach Alex. Without the safety net that Alex provided, this could have had a very negative outcome. This was a serious event, and I am so grateful that Alex was the nurse today. The patient's mother also needed consoling and reached out to Alex for comfort and strength. Alex was with them during the entire visit until a transfer of care could be facilitated for further evaluation of needs.

It is a pleasure to watch Alex grow professionally and personally in the department. I was truly so proud of her today and the way she maintained her emotions, attitude, and professionalism during a very difficult patient and family situation. This truly was an event that will impact Alex as a nurse in the most positive way. She was put in the right place at the right time. Hope is infused daily, and today, this family received an extra dose on the highest level. So proud of you, Alex! Proud to be your colleague and thankful for you every day.
