My 81-year-old husband was in for his second hip replacement, on the same hip within 7 weeks. We were confused and anxious and I (his wife) was scared, for they told us my husband contracted an infection. He was given a PICC line, that in itself is a frightening experience, but with all the other things that go along with 8 days in the hospital, Alex stepped in and was a calming presence. He patiently explained things to us and made sure both of us were taken care of. It was as though my husband was his only patient. Alex worked tirelessly for our comfort. Alex showed grace and patience and loving kindness to two old people that surely needed it. My husband is my life and if I had to leave him in the care of someone, I would choose Alex, the nurse who went above and beyond his duties because I believe he was called to nursing. Alex is a young nurse and has many years left to bless other lives as he did ours. Parkland is very fortunate to have him on their nursing staff. Alex showed a strong passion for what he was doing. He took great care of me and went above the things I wanted to make sure I was comfortable. He was knowledgeable of what he was doing, which brings ease to a person that recognizes when someone is not. I could tell through hearing it across the radio or in the hall this spread to the other rooms as well. I knew I could get any questions answered that I needed promptly if he didn't already have it for me or an explanation. My stay was longer than a day. I have been in the area serviced by Alex since early morning. He is very attentive to my needs and the needs of my roommate. His energy level is very high, even near the end of his shift. One of the impressive attributes is that he seems to sense my needs before I tell him. He is very encouraging and is a great example of the type of employee any business would want."
