Alexander Hedges models exemplary nursing skills and compassionate unconditional personal regard for all adolescents who are admitted for psychiatric treatment. While maintaining professionalism at all times, he conveys to each patient individually that their care is his priority.
Alexander is a highly regarded member of the care team. His advice is often sought after due to his experience in the field, as well as his pragmatic focus on placing safety and patient care above all else. His nursing experience alone is laudable, but what makes Alexander an asset to our team most is his attitude and the encouraging leadership he provides. His friendly tone and calm demeanor often times de-escalates situations that otherwise would have turned into a crisis.
In the midst of some extremely difficult psychiatric adolescent cases, Alexander remains composed. When the task is completed, he never fails to remind us all that we did an excellent job and that he was proud we kept everyone safe.
We nominate Alexander Hedges for a DAISY Award, not for a singular act of extraordinary, compassionate care, but for a continuous act of extraordinary, compassionate care that serves as a working example of the importance of the work that is being done at Mission Hospital.
