June 2026 Honoree
Alexander Nguyen, BSN, RN
We are writing to formally commend members of your ICU team at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center for the exceptional care provided to my mother/grandmother, Margaret Brill, during her admission in September 2025. We respectfully ask that you share this letter with the appropriate leadership and include it in the personnel recognition of the individuals named below.
We offer our deepest and most sincere commendation to Alex. His care transcended excellence in any conventional sense; it was defined by extraordinary empathy, patience, and an intuitive understanding of my mother's emotional and physical needs. Alex formed a genuine bond with my mother that brought her comfort, dignity, and trust during an especially vulnerable time.
One example that speaks volumes is that my mother often agreed to eat only when Alex was present. Recognizing this, Alex consistently took the time to sit with her, never rushed, always patiently encouraging her gently and ensuring she was given foods she actually enjoyed. This level of attentiveness was not simply clinical; it was profoundly personal, preserving her sense of normalcy and care when she needed it most. It made a meaningful difference in her strength and overall well-being.
Equally remarkable was Alex's dedication beyond assigned responsibilities. He visited my mother during personal breaks after she was readmitted to the cardiac unit in January. These visits were entirely voluntary, yet they had a significant and lasting positive impact on her emotional state. Such actions reflect a rare and admirable level of commitment to patient care that extends well beyond expectation. My mother came to genuinely look forward to seeing him each day, finding in him comfort, warmth, and reassurance. That trust brought my mother peace during a difficult time, and it brought our family tremendous comfort as well. Equally remarkable was Alex's dedication beyond assigned responsibilities. These actions reflect a rare and admirable commitment to patient care that goes well beyond expectation.
We respectfully request that you share this commendation with the supervisors and leadership responsible for recognizing staff excellence. Too often, healthcare experiences feel transactional or impersonal; ours was the opposite. Alex embodies the very highest standards of their profession and serves as a powerful example of what compassionate, patient-centered care should look like.
