Listening to the conversation, they trusted Allie to answer their questions and provide them with the hard but important information. Allie not only provided the medical information but provided emotional support as well.
I am a social worker with our case management team and shared a mutual patient with Allie. This patient was in critical condition and the family lived out of state. During each shift, Allie not only provided exceptional care to the patient but was able to develop a rapport and trust with the patient's family.
It became clear that this patient was not going to survive. Since the family lived far away, the conversation to start comfort measures and hospice happened over the phone with the physician, Allie, and case management. Allie was able to provide support, comfort, and explain the medical complexity of the patient to the family on their level, and helped them understand what was happening. Listening to the conversation, they trusted Allie to answer their questions and provide them with the hard but important information. Allie not only provided the medical information but provided emotional support as well. At the end of the call, she was also able to transfer the call to the patient's room for the family to say goodbye and talk to the patient one last time.
I am sure Allie will say that she was just doing her job, but in my opinion, she went above and beyond to not only provide the best care possible for her patient but to provide the best care to the patient's family during the hardest day of their life. I am so honored to have been part of that team and to work with her during that time. She encompasses all our FOCUS values and is an amazing nurse. I am honored to have worked with her during this time.
Thank you, Allie, for all you do for your patients and their families.
