I had a patient that had a small bowel obstruction and needed an NG tube to be placed. I never placed one before so I reached out to the nursing supervisor for assistance and she reached out to the charge nurse on 5L, Alex to come down and provide bedside assistance while placing the NG tube. Alex helped keep my patient calm and answered any questions I had regarding the procedure and provided me with reassurance. After placing the NG tube, I asked Alex if I could call her if I had any questions on setting up suction for the patient.

Alex came back down once placement was verified and made sure everything was set up properly. I told her I was concerned that the regulator wasn't working properly and she told me to give her a call if the problem still persisted. I ended up calling Alex again for help and she came down from her floor with a new regulator and we were able to have the patient's NG tube properly set up and draining.

Alex was such a big help for both myself and the patient. I appreciate the time she took out of her busy day to help and to make sure that I and the patient were comfortable with everything.
