Alex has demonstrated outstanding nursing care on our unit, specifically with a Veteran who suffered from advanced dementia with paranoia. This Veteran frequently became agitated and confused, but Alex was always patient and kind, finding ways to calm him and divert his attention to activities to distract him. For instance, Alex would take time out of her busy shift to stop and play cards one-on-one with the Veteran, building trust and rapport with a Veteran who was uncomfortable around many other staff members. Most notably, Alex actively participated in the Veteran’s discharge plan by personally traveling with the confused Veteran to his assigned nursing home. This decreased the stress of a new environment for the Veteran, allowing him to adapt mentally and physically to the new facility. This is a prime example of how Alex consistently goes above and beyond in the nursing care of our most vulnerable Veterans. She makes them feel safe and secure in every situation. I truly believe Alex is a DAISY Nurse.
