She gave him hope, positivity, and little ways to look forward to the next day.
Alexandra Scudieri is an extraordinary, kind, attentive, and intuitive nurse on Main 8A/B. The Oncology department is fortunate. Your nurse, Alexandra Scudieri, helped my dad and our family through the hardest week of his life. My brother and I flew over 2,000 miles to care for our father. When we finally found our way to the 8th floor, we walked in on our dad, who was already being cared for by Ally. They were laughing together about lord knows what. It was one of those laughs that are deep and genuine. I welled up. Ally stopped in her tracks and introduced herself. She took the time to fill us in on everything that happened and was happening, which was a lot.
She consistently did this each day she was his nurse. Ally is compassionate. She listened to our dad and found ways to understand his inappropriate humor to communicate his fears and needs. She easily dished it back, providing him the reassurance and guidance he needed to help him care for himself while learning all about his condition. She gave him hope, positivity, and little ways to look forward to the next day. She clearly communicated the whys and whens of his care, always following through with her promises, such as bringing him fresh ice water.
Ally demonstrated the utmost respect for our dad even when he wasn’t at his best, encouraging him to eat something other than meatloaf and mashed potatoes, bathing at the bedside, and sleeping when needed.
Ally, you exude respect, compassion, and a love for your job that does not come to all as naturally as it does to you. We feel fortunate to have met you and to know that while in the hospital, our dad is receiving extraordinary levels of care from you. Thank You!
