Alexandria was attentive. She would listen, explain, and set the expectations for what was next during the hospital stay.
I feel extremely fortunate that my mom was in the care of Alexandria Pishkula. Alexandria demonstrated extraordinary clinical skills and compassionate care during her three consecutive 12-hour shifts. There are a lot of ups and downs in a hospital stay. Alexandria was there to celebrate the important positive moments.
For example, good blood pressure readings, improved labs, eating a meal, and successful physical therapy visits. Alexandria would literally cheer for my mom and make us feel reassured that everything was going to be okay, even for a moment. She was also there to empathize with us during the times of pain and fear. She continued to provide reassurance. My mom and family felt safe knowing that Alexandria was at the bedside providing care.
Alexandria was attentive. She would listen, explain, and set the expectations for what was next during the hospital stay. We developed trust in her and her ability to provide care. At the end of her final shift, it was bittersweet. We knew my mom would be discharged, but we also knew that our connection with Alexandria was coming to an end. Before she left on the last night, my mom hugged her and thanked her for everything, as she was almost moved to tears. Everyone should have a nurse like Alexandria who excels in clinical competence, critical thinking, effective communication, adaptability, compassion, and empathy. Thank you to Alexandria for providing comfort and support to not only my mom but to me and my family during the most challenging and vulnerable time. My mom and family are forever grateful for having the opportunity to know her.
In addition to Alexandria, all the RNs, PCNA’s, and clinical team on 9 West demonstrated professionalism and compassionate care.
