Alexia Solis, RN
The moment I walked into my mom's room, I witnessed my mother agitated, anxious, and yelling at this nurse.
Alexia briefly informed me that my mom wanted to get up and use the commode. She also explained that she had an emergent temporary pacemaker placed and needed to remain in bed.
Before I could intervene, she quickly directed herself back to my mom and patiently and lovingly explained what was happening and why she needed to remain in bed. Her patience and diligence de-escalated the situation and prevented my mother from having another panic attack.
In those moments of anxiety and despair, Alexia earned both my trust and my mom's trust. She rounded on my mom throughout the entire night and was an amazing advocate for my mom's care. She contacted doctors, clarified orders, and requested anxiety medications, but did not force my hesitant mom to take the medications.
My mom was scared to take meds on an empty stomach. Alexia gave my mom options, allowed her the freedom to decide, and did not pressure her or become frustrated with her. She was extremely patient. She took the time to reposition, bathe, comfort, and listen to my mom and meet her needs, even something as small as a Jell-O request.
Alexia involved my mom in her care. We were honored to have her care for my mom for two nights. I was sleep-deprived and worried about my mom. Alexia's presence and exceptional patient care put my mind at ease on night two.
Knowing that she was there again gave me the opportunity to sleep soundly and not worry about my mom. She gained my trust, and I trusted my precious mother in her hands. I was able to actually sleep. Those hours were precious and much needed.
"Thank you" will never be enough!
Alexia received my mom at her worst, and thanks to her compassionate care and diligence, she was able to see my mom at her best. The little things and the attention to detail made all the difference in my mom's recovery. Throughout both nights with her, she was able to keep my mom's anxiety level low and her panic attacks at bay.
These two nights with Alexia were the first two nights in nearly two months that my mom did not have a panic attack. She is an amazing nurse, and her calming spirit radiates love and compassion.
Methodist, and specifically the MICU, is so incredibly fortunate to have her on this team. She represents what all nurses should be.
My mom, my family, and I are forever grateful for this nurse and the amazing care she provided, not only to my mom, but for caring enough to make sure all doubts, questions, and even comfort were addressed.
Thank you, Alexia, for giving your all and for showing up every shift. The world is so lucky to have you. Many lives will be blessed because of you. It's been an honor to have you as my mom's nurse.
