Alexia Steele, RN

I would like to recognize Alexia for her excellent assessment skills, recognizing the facial droop and weakness that could indicate a stroke. My husband arrived via ambulance and was assessed prior to my arrival. Initially, I don't think they realized he was having a stroke, but Alexia was persistent and informed the attending physician of her findings. The physician came back in and still did not think it was a stroke. I, myself, did not see a facial droop at that time. We are grateful for Alexia's nursing skills and advocacy, when it was not recognized by the attending. I will say the next morning that the facial droop was much more obvious. Alexia demonstrated the UPMC values, and we appreciated her competent assessments and advocacy.
