I knew right away that my son was in great hands because Alexis instantly showed to be a huge advocate for my son.
Alexis is an outstanding nurse! I was kind of surprised when she informed me that she had graduated from nursing school in 2023. Because she exudes a confidence and level when dealing with my son that is one that you see in a veteran nurse.
Since 2020, my son has undergone over 20 shunt revisions. So, we already hold everyone who works on RC.5 near and dear to our hearts. But there was something about Alexis that outshone the rest.
In May, my son and I headed to Seattle Children's, knowing deep down that we were about to endure another Shunt Revision. It made for an extremely long day. By the time my son got to RC 5, I was completely exhausted, and with the reality that my son's shunt had to be externalized for the 3rd time. I was anxious just thinking about what the coming days and hours were going to entail. That was until Alexis came into the picture.
She was outstanding! I knew right away that my son was in great hands because Alexis instantly showed to be a huge advocate for my son. Some would say that is the role of the nurse, and it is almost expected, but Alexis was textbook and beyond. Anything and everything she said she was going to do, she did, and she did it well. She insisted on always going above and beyond, doing so with a level head and a calm demeanor. She had my son's pain in check and ensured there was a plan in place if we could not control his pain. It often feels so in healthcare that people are reactive instead of proactive. Not Alexis, she is so proactive, and that just enhanced the level of care she provided my son.
Alexis, I know you are new to the land of nursing. But you are an amazing gift to healthcare and to kids like my son. I hope you never lose that fire.
