What stands out most about Alexis is her ability to connect clinical data, patient status, and quality-of-life considerations to advocate for meaningful change
I commend Nurse Alexis for her exceptional clinical judgment, patient advocacy, and unwavering commitment to holistic, patient-centered care. As a registered dietitian, I collaborate closely with many nurses throughout the hospital, and Alexis consistently distinguishes herself through the way she prioritizes nutrition as an essential component of healing. She routinely monitors patients' oral intake, recognizes subtle changes in appetite or tolerance, and proactively communicates concerns so that timely nutrition interventions can be implemented.

A recent example that highlights Alexis's extraordinary practice occurred when she noticed a patient was not eating adequately. She contacted me to request the addition of Ensure and/or Magic cup to help support the patient's intake. In addition, Alexis thoughtfully questioned why the patient remained on a potassium-restricted diet, noting that the patient's most recent potassium level was low and that potassium supplementation had already been administered. Recognizing that this restriction could unnecessarily limit food choices and worsen intake, she advocated for the removal of the restriction so the patient could better meet his nutritional needs. Alexis also consistently notices when a patient has been NPO for more than a day or two, and reaches out to discuss whether nutrition support should be initiated. Importantly, she approaches these conversations with a strong respect for the patient's goals of care and personal wishes, ensuring that any intervention aligns with what the patient wants and what is clinically appropriate.

What stands out most about Alexis is her ability to connect clinical data, patient status, and quality-of-life considerations to advocate for meaningful change. She does not hesitate to speak up when something does not seem right, and her actions directly contribute to improved patient outcomes and truly collaborative interdisciplinary care.

Alexis exemplifies the qualities of an extraordinary nurse - knowledgeable, compassionate, attentive, and deeply invested in the well-being of her patients. I am grateful to work alongside her.
