Alexis was caring for a patient who, upon getting her ready to be discharged, informed the charge nurse that she did not have any shoes and could not go home without any and that she definitely could not afford to buy any new ones. Unfortunately, upon calling other departments where the patient had been, the shoes could not be located. Alexis came to management with her dilemma so the ANM reached out to get a family member to bring some tennis shoes for the patient. When the ANM rounded back with Alexis to let her know that shoes were on the way, the ANM noticed that the patient was sitting on the side of the bed, Alexis was tying the patient's shoes and there Alexis was standing in "Yellow Fall Socks" and the patient had on her new tennis shoes. The patient was telling Alexis that since her ride for discharge was already there and could not wait any longer, Alexis saw this as the best option. The patient was happy as she wheeled out with her pair of shoes. Alexis deserves to be recognized for her genuine, pure giving heart and going way above and beyond for this patient. She certainly was a star in my book that day! P.S. Alexis did not go shoeless, ANM gave Alexis her shoes and waited for the extra pair of shoes to arrive so everyone ended up with some shoes!!
