If nursing is the art and science of caring medical practice, Alexis could serve as the archetype. She quietly worked with exemplary empathy and attention to detail in the care of two geriatric patients, L and C, who were involved in a traumatic motor vehicle accident. L and C were admitted to Fargo Sanford. That day, L was placed in the ICU while C was in the ER until early Tuesday, when she was given a room on the 6th floor. L would later be moved to the 6th floor. L and C's family were present in significant numbers and spent a great deal of time moving between rooms on the 1st, 5th, and 6th floors.

Alexis, on the night shift and assigned to L’s room, noticed that the families spent significant effort coordinating visitation and care between the two rooms on opposite sides of the 6th floor. She independently coordinated with hospital and nursing staff to move C next to L. She felt it would make it easier for the families to visit and would also allow L and C to see one another for the first time since the accident, raising their morale and qualitatively supporting their recovery.

Despite the age gap between Alexis and her patients and most of their family, she was intuitively sensitive to their medical, administrative, emotional, and spiritual needs. Alexis took the initiative to improve our family's treatment experience, despite significant extra effort and inconvenience for herself. For these actions, Alexis’ efforts stood out among exceptionally skilled and empathic medical care providers. On behalf of my family, I am honored to submit this nomination.

Thank you, Alexis, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
