For the last two years, I've been facing and fighting certain issues and symptoms that have seemed to evade the knowledge and the expertise of the doctors who were trying to fix my problem, which ultimately proved to be A-fib. My wife brought me to the emergency department, and shortly after, I was admitted to the hospital. While I was there under new observation, they had an idea of my problem but they could not pinpoint the main cause of my discomfort. My day shift nurse was seeing something on the monitor that was making her question what was going on with me. This nurse, Alexis, came and explained what she thought she was seeing on my monitors. She brought her findings to the floor physician, and in turn, he brought those findings to the resident cardiologist, and they determined that these were pauses in my heartbeat. With this news, my personal cardiologist was ecstatic that they scheduled my heart procedures, and in two days, I received my pacemaker. Some may say that this action was part of normal procedure, but for me, it was so much more. It was a diligent approach of Alexis' sound character and medical training to come to some kind of clarity of the situation and ultimately bring my problem to a resolution. I would say, in the short term, Alexis saved my life.
